Do we need History?

Whenver Mohammed Ali Jinnah name appeared in th BJP circle it creates ripples in the party. Some analysts says history is irrelavant the need of the hour is focussing the future. That doesn't mean you should remove the history from the school curriculum. To my mind, history is not irrelevant in the following grounds:

Mangement students crave for case studies which is nothing but HISTORY.

Before giving treatment to a patient the doctor will insist for case HISTORY to know about the body condition.

For constucting a bridge/house the architects conduct soil test which is nothing but a sort of HISTORY.

In the police book, they maintain a list of HISTORY SHEETER ( a book of habitual offenders)in the locality.

In courts precedents play an important role in formulation of legislation .Precedents are nothing but HISTORY.

To get into a wedlock both bride and groom should know about characters of each other. In other words, they show passion in knowing aboout the past which is othrwise known as HISTORY.

While making policies in the area of social welfare thegovernment bodies rely on statistics datas whichis the other form of HISTORY.

ODI's facing threat

The arrival ot T20 has made ODI's redundant. People don't have patience to watch a full 50 over game. A sudden attraction over this new format of game will not last forever. Though it has brought in new fans to the game.

Recently, the ECB has announced its withdrawls of ODI format from its domestic league. Moreover, after the 2011 world cup a committe would review the one day game status.

Some drastic steps has to be taken to retain the one dayers. Like, reduction of number of overs to 40. Removing bowling restrictions i.e. removal of limitation of bouncers being bowled in an over. Reducing the number of players to 8 in a team which could also make the game interesting. Allowing the coach to offer tips to the players when the game is on (just like football, hockey and basketball)

The game should be evenly poised neither it should favour batsman nor bowlers. For every catch taken by a fielder 6 runs should be awarded to his team kitty. For every catch dropped by a fielder 4 runs should be deducted.Thereby one could bring in a fitness component and making every player to work hard in the fielding departmment.

For a run-out, incase of a direct hit, the fielder should be awarded 6 runs. Even wicket keeper should get score for every dismissal he makes. And the negative score should be awarded for every miss.

Eventually, both teams score runs through out the game whether they are batting or bowling. No matter how (big) the score, each team would strive hard to outplay the opposition.

" Delhi sets" aur apki kismat

In late 70's and early 80's owning a tape recorder was a status symbol. Not everybody could purchase branded sets. The Indian manufacturers are known for copy cat technologies. They manufactured "tape recorders" locally and marketed to the Indian customers. Predominantly, these manufacturing units were seen in and around Delhi. That's how the name "Delhi sets" derived.
No warranty period was provided for the sets sold. If the customer was lucky, the "set" could last longer. If he was not so lucky, the "set" would not function properly. Before purchasing these "sets" one should be prepared to any eventualities.
However, for a typical Indian middle class they could put up with any condition. Whenever, a problem erupted there was a local radio mechanic to rectify the problem. That's how the life went on.

The new millenium Indian consumers had transformed themselves. Now they possess all new gizmos at throwaway prices thanks to chinese and korean goods flooding the indian market.
If one feel sick with any product they could replace it just like that and buy a new product. Brand loyalty gone for a toss. so, the life goes on like this.

Now compare our "delhi sets" with our parents life because they both belonged to that era. They endured so much but they didn't create a ruckus over the petty problems. They solved the "problems" with the available tools locally. The life was peaceful and joyful.

Wheeas,we change every now and then. We don't have patience to rectify our problems
all we want an instantaneous result. We have zero-tolerance towards any hardships.

If god shuts a door he open (two) doors.........

At the time of happening we cannot reconcile to the fact. Most of us don't have patience to accept the situation as it is. Only time can tell us whether you've acted properly. For every wound in our mind, only time can play the role of an ointment.

chennai celebrates 370th birthday

This south indian metropolis celebrated its 370th birthday on saturday. Chennai has its long history. It started much before than the arrival of british.

Fort St. George was the epicentre of the creation of Madras what is now known as Chennai.

Now, the city has grown by leaps and bounds. Chennai is always known for filter coffee. Which is a unique to other coffee lovers. Even barista people have to learn some tips from madras mami when it comes to making filter coffee.

Over the years, chennai has not shed its traditional mentality fully though, signs of modernity are visible across the city.

Very peaceful, lovable and queit city. some outsiders may call this city as a "not-full-cosmopolitan" city.

If you compare this city with any other Indian metropolis this city is less polluted . Prices are less. Even today, one could see a lot of green cover inspite of the rapid urbanisation.

We want chennai to retain its originality at the same time not to lag behind its progress.

AS the song goes madras nalla madras.........

Just Observe.......

Observe your breathe in the following situations:

You are asked to present a speech in a business meeting for the first time in your lifetime.

You have been caught by a traffic sergeant for over speeding that too, you don't have valid driving licence at the time of being caught.

You've stashed some porno novels inside your cupboard and that are being recovered by your family members.

You have almost clinched a deal which you, otherwise, thought almost impossible.

You are watching a pornography film for the first time in your lifetime in your house secretively that time you hear a calling buzz.

First day of your employment inside a laboratory (you are an inexperienced ) and you've broken apparatus made out of glasses all chemicals are poured down.

You've hushed up your past to your life partner but somehow, he/she questions you about it or related incidents.

You are almost broke and credit card recovery agents at your doorstep.

Your girl friend has permitted you to give her a kiss (this phenomenon is not applicable to casanovas/man-eaters)

In all these instances, your breathing pattern will not be normal. The rhythm in the breathing will get disturbed.

Usually, at the time of inhalation our stomach goes inside while exhaling our stomach comes out this is WRONG.

While inhaling our stomach should expand like a balloon being filled with air and while exhaling our stomach should give out the air in other words, it should get squeezed . This is the right technique.

As a baby we completely associate with nature. Once we've grown up, we assimilated those things which are against the nature.

As Rajinish said we need de-hypnosis programme.

England wins ashes.....

This is the oldest rivalry in the cricketing world. However, nothing can replace the subcontinental rivalry (India and Pakistan) the tussle is not just confined to sporting arena.

Chasing a mammoth total of over 500+ was never going to be an easy task. Kudos to the English bowlers who toiled hard on the field to rip through the Australian batting line-up.

This is the second ashes series lost under the capitancy of Ricky pointing. And this is the second ashes series win under the capitancy of Micheal Vaughan of England.

The winning streak of Australians is often "punctured" these days . After this loss, a lot of soul-searching will be done by the CA.

Tough times for captain Ricky Pointing ahead.

during meditation....

First of all, it is difficult to sit for meditation. But, somehow you've started practicing meditation, Initial thoughts will be absurd and silly.

The moment you close your eyes you will be thinking of paying your credit card bills/Elecricity bills/ property tax if that one subsidised, you will think of your personal secretary's cleavage.

Next thought that would pop up about your clumsy handling of your boss itinerary . By this time a mosquito will bite you / or the sound of the ceiling fan would distrub you.Somehow, you've managed to focus(what focussing? cleavage or eternal bliss)you suddenly hear a shrill voice to wake you up to get vegetables from the market.

One has to obey that voice otherwise, the chakka jaam will be announced in your home . The owner of the voice is none other than your deadly WIFE.

Why not the same?

After feeling the heat in everyday's life we realise that there must be something which we've not earned inspite of our material success. Then, we browse through our newspapers and yellow pages to know about the nearest yoga centre. We approach them and pay the fees to "buy" the inner peace. Or on doctor advice we approach yoga center .

There the yoga expert would teach you 2 or 3 asanas (infact, you 'll not be able to touch your feet as a matter of fact, you wouldn;t have seen your toes for years together in a standing posture) the expert would command you to bend forward there one could see a great "bulund darwaza" between your hands and toes your hands struggle hard to touch the toes.Blame your Madhya pradesa for all your ills.

The next session would be on pranayama That would be the first day you would watch your breathing which you had not done during your schooldays, collegedays or during your "first night"/if it was not first night "close encounters" / one-night stands with girl friends/boy friends(actually, we breathe according to our moods )

The last and important session of yoga classes you will be taught how to meditate the moment you learned this art your mind would instruct you that you 've been joined in the panel of great rishis of India.

You expect consistency in meditation because you've been tuned like that. You started gauging the experience during "meditation" and you compare this session with other session there by you end up losing interest in meditation . The end result: back to square one.

The meditation experience will not be same. One should not compare the meditation results. Once compared, which means you were not involved in meditation actively.

Ganesha chathurthi

During our freedom struggle Bal Gangadar tilak used ganesh utsav festival as a method to unite the people of this country.

One should not see Lord Ganesh as a mere god. He is a concept based on vaktatvam. He is the lord of intellect and knowledge. That's why in some parts of the country he is seen with consorts siddhi and buddhi. One should not come to the conclusion that hindu deities promote bigamy.

Some vaishnavites consider that lord ganesha is the god of saivas so they don't worship him. Again, I stress that ganesha should be seen as a concept/technology.Technology do not differentiate people background. But, vaishnavities worship vishveksena (a counterpart of ganesha). Same effect but, two different service providers that's all.

Ganesh chathurthi not only celebrated in India. It is celbrated around the world. In Indonesia, the country with largest population of muslims in the world, their currency has the picture of lord Ganesha embossed on it. Where he is known as god of knowledge and counting.

The red Indians celebrate ganesh chathurthi . A lots of ganesha idols excavated from mexico region.

The lord ganesha represents mooladhara chakra as per yogic science. mooladhara is nothing but earth concept. That's why people in India make ganesh idols out of mud.

The purpose of visargan (to put it simply, it is nothing but beating a retreat) the next day of the puja the ganesh idol is immersed in water (be it well, stream and ocean) . Actually, God is formless but, in order to understand a particular concept we give form to the formless. After understanding the concept, we return the apparatus. just like we return the book to the lending library after reading it.

prevention is better than cure.....

Continious bombardment of news makes an individual to feel nervous about swine flu. The other day I was having a chat with an ayurvedic doctor about this problem. He said as per ayurvedic science they don't differentiate any flus with disparity.Actually, this system is addressing the root cause of the problem. It is better to boost up your immunity for which amla (goose berry) powder or food which contains more vitamin C (it is considered as a detterent of cold-related problems). Also try triphala powder and aswagandha tablets.

One can also try sudarsana churna for three days . Moreover, it is better always to consult an ayurvedic practioner before one can come to the conclusion.

First Half dedication...second half dereliction

Man life should be divided into two halves. First, with his health he earns wealth. The moment he hits 40, in order to survive, he spends his "accumulated" wealth to retain his health.
In the early stage, he has no time to take care of his children. The moment they get "settled" they have no time to look after their parents.

Thanks to technology, one can set funeral pyre on fire just by clicking the mouse and shed two or three drops of tears (in the meantime, conduct an ensemble ohhhhhhhh papa! ohhhhhhhhhh mama in chorus that would pep up the background literally) then carry on with their works. Just because of shedding tears and to safeguard from getting flu( thesedays, even ordinary flu is considered as "swine flu") gulp down one or two pegs of whisky and forget about your worries.

Similar thing awaits us in another 20-30 years in an much more advanced version. Remember ! Newton's 3rd Law.

It is as simple as.....

The following is a conservation between a guru and his disciple
DISCIPLE: I regularly do puja with full dedication can I get enlightenment?
Guru: Maybe , maybe not...
Disciple: I read religious scriptures everyday will I get enlightenment?
Guru: Maybe, Maybe not....
Disciple: I regularly go to pilgrimage every year won't I get enlightenment?
Guru: May be May be not....
Disciple: I show compassion to other living creatures and I am against violence will I get enlightenment or not?
Guru: may be may not?

Frustrated disciple asked the guru " then, what is the way to get enlightement? Please tell me swamiji?
Guru laughed and said" You do as much as you do for a sunrise and a sunset".

READING SCRIPTURES, VISITING TEMPLES, GOING ON PILGRIMAGE ARE CONSIDERED TO BE A PREPARATORY SESSION. Moreover, your karmic baggage also helps you to take you to the corridors of the enlightenment. Ultimately, it is Hari ittchha.

Call it sheer coincidence or premonition

Three movies, Three occurences. In 1993 the Mahanadhi was released, the film touched upon chit-fund scam and betrayal of friendship .In 1995, in Tamil Nadu and southern states "blade-companies" swindled crores of rupees from the investors.

In 2003, the film "Anbe Sivam" got released in a particular scene "the hero of the film would narrate how his father got swept away by a high tide and he also mentioned about tsunami for which his co-star pooh-poohed his claims on occurence of tsunami".When this movie was made the knowledge about the tsunami was absymal low. Everybody took it in a casual manner.By the end of 2004, tsunami waves struck the Indian coast.

In 2008, the fim"Dasavataharam" was released it spoke about synthetic biological weapon and its bad effects on mankind. This year, swine flu struck across the world.

Whether these movies portend'ed' the ensuing occurences.

What would one say was it a sheer coincidene or a prmonition. This analysis is just confined to Tamil Nadu. Nothing else.. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Now, the question is "what next?"

Intricacy in SAAS-Bahu relations

A so-called ratonalist leader once quipped " 100 tufts can unite together but not 2 braids can go together" meaning 100 tufts denotes 100 brahmins can work together (thesedays there are no brahmins only vermins) but 2 ladies cannot unite.

The relationship get soured between saas-bahu because if one look from mother's angle she feels that her grip over her son is lost after the entry of the bahu in their house. If you look from bahu 's angle, The moment she enters her in-laws house she is positioning herself as Chengiz Khan no matter who comes in her way. "Sirf Kallaas" that is the mantra. Moreover, the laws in India are heavily tilted in favour of women and in addition, the media whip up the passion of "emancipation".

In this crossfire, the only hapless creature that get stuck is the man who has to pacify both his mother and his wife. Two male members have no ego .Have you ever listened to the story of tussle between Son-in-law and father -in-law/brother-in-law.

As many minds , As many paths

You and I are same in the eyes of the creator. But, when it comes to individual tastes we are different . some are tall, some are dwarf some "overeaters" and other some starve to get a decent meals. our preferences are not alike. our likes and dislikes differ yet we are same.

Then how could one compel to worship "the single god". As there are as many minds so there will be as many ways of worshipping HIM.

Observe to strike a better deal

My friend wanted to donate fruits and vegetables to an orphanage on the occasion of his father's ceremony. So he approached a fruit vendor who was selling water melons and bannanas. That vendor was known for arrogance in that locality. He always treated his customers with a contempt. It was 3.00 p.m. afternoon. A few customers came to the spot and bought fruits. Initially, he demanded Rs.20 / kg very few drew courage to start bargain. But, many withdrew themselves fearing expletives from him.

My friend got enraged over the behaviour of the fruit vendor. A plan was hatched that he sent some decoys in the form of "buyers" to the fruit vendor's place. They demanded water melons for rock bottom price. Initially, the fruit vendor gave them a verbal bashing. Unabashed over the incident, my friend sent next wave of decoys to "buy" fruits . Again same treatment was meted out. My friend intention was to destablise him and then bring him or make him to accept the quoted price .

After these incidents, a kind of confusion had set in the mind of the fruit vendor. Whether to quote the fixed price or bring down the price. My friend is a good mind reader. He said to me "still, the fruit vendor has not made up his mind EK AUR DHADKHA DHILAANA PADEGA". Third wave of decoys were sent to the fruit vendor. To everyone surprise, he didn't say anything he just pleaded the "buyers" to get away from the scene.

My friend said "that the time is "ripe" to bargain with the fruit vendor". Because he understood the situation that the fruit vendor was in no mood to continue shop for the day as he wanted to sell off the products as earlier as possible.

He went to the fruit vendor and asked water melons for Rs.8/kg to which vendor accepted the deal . My friend bought 20kgs @ Rs.160.
Therby he saved Rs.240 and he said always cultivate a habit to say NO at the first instance because if you accept anyone/anything without a proper scrutiny you will land in trouble. At last, his patience had paid off.

New Threats newer dimensions

The Human race is defeating one obstacle after another. Yet the race has not witnessed total control over the diseases. If one disease is suppressed another takes a virulent form. Giving no respite to mankind . Yet we take threats as it comes . That's what one call true"spirit". Degradation and upgradation go simultaneously. If one keep harp on degradation our improvement get stuck. As I often say "offence is the best defense" .

The psychosis surrounding the disease will be killing the patient then the actual disease would. Sometimes, it is always better to live in a seclusion. In the name of educating the mass, the media ratchet up the issue. So, my conclusion is IGNORANCE IS BLISS. Come what may!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Menfolk: tryst with destiny

As per unofficial data, there are more numbers of widows than widowers across the world. This phenomenon is due to over expectations from both sides. After the marriage, the man is "tuned" into the status of a zombie. Suppose if he contradicted her "orders" THAT'S ALL. He would feel as if he is incarcerated inside a dungeon. His power of free thinking would be deprived. Though in the society , his rating would have gone up but, in reality, he must be cursing his fate. As a result, his metabolism would cripple. Thereby he is susceptible to lifestyle diseases. His travel to grave would be expedited.

There are many widows who die within a year of bereavment. Such cases are rarest of the rare. Predominantly, (not generalising) other partner simply eyeing on property left by her departed husband (and vice versa). These days relationships are built based on expectations and desires. Hence, none bother bother about it.

The woman would try to "tame" him to toe her line. If resisted, she would intensified her onslaught . Basicaly, menfolk are chicken hearted they would not be in a position to surmount the attack .

In my earler blog, I had said about the womenfolk trying to "domesticate" the menfolk probably her "taming" tactics are misunderstood as "oppression" by the idiotic menfolk. WOMENFOLK don't worry carry on with your mission until you finish off the menfolk from this earth.

Venerate womenfolk

The other day I was attending a teachers meeting in a school. A prominent IAS speaker spoke on the function. He was talking on the women role in moulding the children's character. He cited an example stating that womenfolk played an important role domesticating around 14 animals around us. But, she is still struggling to domesticate the menfolk . WOMENFOLK i VENERATE U i WISH U IN YOUR MISSION.
